Running to keep my seat this Fall

Posted on Mon 23 June 2025 in Announcement

Just over a year ago I filed to run for an unexpired Carrboro Town Council term. I did it knowing that if I wanted to keep the seat, I’d need to file and run again the very next year. That’s now. Filing starts this July for an election here in Carrboro with early voting in October and Election Day on Tuesday, November 4th. I’ll need your help. It could be as simple as sharing this post with a friend.

A picture from street level looking north. A red brick building fills the bottom two thirds of the frame, with partly cloudy skies above. The building has "Black Lives Matter" painted by hand in black and white. The Southern face of the Carrboro Century Center viewed from across the street

Quite a bit has changed since November of 2024, but let’s start with some things that have stayed the same: I’m committed to building Joy, Peace, and Justice in Carrboro. I’m committed to doing the hard work of maintaining the thriving and vibrant Carrboro that has changed in ways big and small since I finished 5th grade at Carrboro Elementary. I’m committed to raising my kids here. I’m committed to the work of Transportation Transformation, Anti-racist Learning and Practice, Better Housing, and Climate Action. None of that has changed.

Factors at the national and international level have changed. People are scared. Our Trans family and neighbors have been under sustained attack. People have lost work, and with that their healthcare access. Many of my neighbors are scared that, despite impeccable documentation of their legal status, or in some cases even their status as citizens, they will be targeted by masked federal agents jumping out of unmarked vehicles. This fear and pain is an intentional effort by bullies who want us constantly on the back foot, and I would be lying if I said I hadn’t been tempted to lean on my privilege and keep my head down, weathering the terror until we come out the other side. However, tuning out is not a morally defensible option for me.

This is my community. This is my work.

Mi Comunidad, mi trabajo.

If only a few of us stand up, or if we stand only for our own narrow interests, we will be driven back and down each in turn. If we support each other and deny the bullies their targets, we will win. Please offer what support you can. Whether that’s volunteering your time or donating funds, your support is for a better Carrboro.
