Debate Watch Party

I won't be at any debate watch parties because my youngest child is sick with a fever, and the reality is that as passionate as I am about getting Democrats elected up and down the ballot, I can't do that at the expense of the health of my family. Fortunately, my family has the resources and network to be able to retain help when something like this comes up in the future, say the night before a town council meeting. That puts us well outside the norm, however. Most families don't have the combination of resources and time flexibility to be able to make a commitment like the one I'm making to Carrboro, and if we value participatory democracy, that's a problem.

We need parents of young children participating in the downtown area plan process, which means we need the caregivers covering for those parents to be affordable and available, which means we need more housing, more types of housing, and lower cost housing. We also need more options for getting around between neighborhoods, and from neighborhoods to pharmacies and a pediatrician.

If you can donate a few dollars to my campaign or come canvass this weekend, you can help work on all of the above, because they're all things that are priorities in my platform, and also priorities of other Democrats.
